![]() Go through the remaining door to see two paths. Choose to stay in the tunnels then work your way back to the beginning where there should be a door on your left that you haven't entered yet. ![]() Begin to make your way out of the tunnels and you will be asked if you want to warp out or stay. Once all the enemies are dead you call collect all the Dwarven Immortalle in the area and you can also collapse the final tunnel for Cecil's quest. Use Quen as usual then wait for the Bullvore to try charge you, when it does roll out of the way and attack it from behind. Bullvores can hit hard (especially on Dark mode) but are easy enough to avoid. Head back through the trapped tunnel and out the door then turn right and follow the tunnel to the end where you will have to fight not only another group of Rotfiends but they will be joined by a Bullvore enemy. Once you can move freely loot the body here to get Balin's Journal IV and a Storehouse Key. Make your way through the tunnel disarming them then head through the door where four more traps will be waiting. Enter the first door you come to on your right and when inside this tunnel use Geralt's medallion ( ) to reveal a lot of traps on the ground. Go back to the room with the wooden platforms and this time go down the path the Rotfiends attacked from. On the other side of the door will be a small room with another corpse where you can collect Balin's Third Map, Balin's Journal III and the Lower Shaft Key. Once the enemies are all dead go straight ahead from the wooden platforms and through a door. Inside move forward onto some wooden platforms where some more Rotfiends will attack from your right. On your way up the tunnel loot another corpse to get Balin's Second Map, Balin's Journal II and the Middle Shaft Key then collapse the tunnel when you reach the end.īacktrack slightly to the door you just passes and use your new key to open it. Once these are dead continue on but ignore the door and instead turn left and continue down another tunnel. If you want another fight you can go into the next door straight ahead where a Greater Rotfiend and some regular ones wait or you can go through the door on the left to continue.įollow the next tunnel all the way around killing more Rotfiends in the small off-shoot areas as you do then go through the door you find at the end. A few more Rotfiends will attack here so take care of them. Go back through the last door then go straight to the opposite side of the room thorugh another one. Approach the area just behind the body with the mentioned items and interact with it to collapse the tunnel. Loot the area then go through the door on the right to kill some more Rotfiends and collect Balin's First Map, Balin's Journal I and the Upper Shaft Key. Go through the next door ahead and kill a group of Rotfiends after which a scene will play. After heading through a couple of doors search a dead dwarf to get some Poisoned Harpy Claws (save these). Walk just behind Cecil to go through a door into the mines, if you need a map to help you get around you can find one HERE. Go through the first red door you find on your right then once on the other side turn right again to go through a tunnel and speack to Cecil with a group of dwarves on the other side to add an extra quest to the list. Turn right after you go up the steps leading away from the inn to walk up a sloped path. Go into your alchemy menu and create yourself at least three Grapeshot bombs if you don't already have them then leave the inn (if you need ingredients you can buy them around town). Once the conversation is over go upstairs to your room and stash anything you don't need to lighten your load. Choose to have a drink then go through all the conversation options starting from the bottom and working your way up. Make your way to the inn where you should see a brief scene and as you go to enter check the notice board on the right and grab the document titled 'Proclomation of Closure of the Mines.' before heading inside. ![]() When you get control again you will have a bunch of quests added to your questlog so go into the menu and start off with Subterranean Life. Inside follow the map marker into a room where you will find the war council and a scene will play. Go up the stairs once outside and wrap around to your left to go up a path and speak to a dwarf guarding a door at the end. Chase down Skalen as he leaves and ask him about arm wrestling to begin the quest for it here then leave the inn the way you came. When you can start following Skalen to your room at the inn, here you will be able to access your stash of items. ![]() Repeat this process until you reach a blue fog and enter to get a scene and arrive in Vergen. When you defeat all the enemies the bubble will turn orange again allowing you to continue. Every now and then the bubble will turn blue and you will be attacked by some more Draugir as well as some Wraiths. Stay within the bubble and follow the owl through the battlefield.

![]() Jeff Bezos and eBay founder Pierre Omidyar would follow soon after. In 2001, his long-time mentor and Lotus founder Mitch Kapor became Linden Lab’s first angel investor. However, with S-D video technology and networking hitting a tipping point in the early 2000s, Rosedale finally was able to convince investors to fund his idea. On top of that, broadband adoption was still at a nascent stage. For the first two years, the business, which had over a dozen employees, was completely self-funded by Rosedale himself.Īt the time, prospective investors simply didn’t believe that something so technically complex could be pulled off. He set up shop in San Francisco’s Linden Alley, which ultimately served as the basis for how he named the studio behind Second Life. Inspired by the depicted simulation in the Matrix movie and being armed with millions from his tenure at RealNetworks, he ultimately decided to move back to San Francisco (from Seattle) to build the virtual world he always dreamed of creating. However, his urge to branch out on his own again ultimately proved to be greater than his desire of being an employee. Over the next few years, Rosedale stayed at RealNetworks, which ultimately went public in 1997. Rosedale, still being in his 20’s, was appointed as its Chief Technology Officer. Two years later, that company was bought by RealNetworks, a Seattle-based developer of streaming software. Not long after, he launched Freeview, a video compression technology. In 1994, after wrapping up his studies, Rosedale moved to San Francisco to immerse himself in the burgeoning world of the Valley. The proceeds from that work effectively put him through college.Īs a result of being debt-free, he was able to take some risks right out of college. Rosedale sold database systems to car dealerships and other local businesses while pursuing a degree in physics at the University of California at San Diego. On top of that, his computer savviness also allowed him to get a first taste of how life as an entrepreneur could be like. Classmates of his would later recall how he raved about the inner workings of the atom bomb and other scientific breakthroughs. Rosedale, from a very young age, had been drawn to computers and science topics. Second Life, which is built and maintained by San Francisco-based Linden Labs, was launched in June 2003 by Philip Rosedale. Second Life can be accessed and played by downloading its desktop software that is available for Mac and Windows devices. One US dollar normally gives you between 240 to 270 Linden Dollars. Transactions are conducted through Second Life’s online marketplace. ![]() Moreover, players can purchase plots of land as well as objects using Second Life’s native currency called Linden Dollars. In its heyday, even companies like Coca-Cola or universities such as Harvard set up shop in Second Life.Ĭonsequently, avatars can be customized to the user’s liking, for example by altering their gender, height, hair and skin color, clothing, and more.Ĭustomizations can also be done outside of the game by using the Linden Scripting Language (with the name being based on Linden Labs, the developer behind the game). This includes communities for arts, games, sports, education, and more. There are also various groups and organizations in which users can engage in. ![]() In Second Life, players can essentially do anything that they would do in the real world, whether it’s to purchase a house, visit various attractions, or even start a family. Second Life is an online virtual world in which players create avatars of themselves and interact with other users. I looked for innovation in OpenOffice and I simply could not find it. One of the great ways that Smart Art improves your productivity is by automatically resizing fonts and other elements as you add data so that you don’t need to manually adjust things to make everything fit in the desired space. There are a huge number of available Smart Art types, and each one can be further modified with one of the many available styles or by manually modifying attributes such as colour and size. Office 2007 introduces Smart Art, a great new way of enabling the end user to present data in visually attractive lists, flowcharts and other diagrams. However that is not the only innovative feature that improves end user productivity. It has already been shown that the innovative new ribbon interface makes Office 2007 much easier to use than older style interfaces. In comparison to Microsoft Office 2007, OpenOffice has a terrible selection of only a few ugly templates included. This number increases into the hundreds when you also include those that are available through the integration with Office Online. Office 2007 ships with dozens of functional, stylish document templates for each of the applications in the suite. ![]() The selection of styles is much smaller than with Office 2007, and there are fewer attractive modern styles available. There is no live preview to let you quickly see how your table data is going to look. Creating a table means navigating through a tedious interface where you have to set the number for each of the rows and columns.įormatting the table is equally tedious. The speed with which this task was performed in Office 2007 only highlights the clunkiness of the dated interface used by OpenOffice. Immediately after that the ribbon switches to the selection of styles available to format your table, with the table updating with a live preview as you hover the mouse over each style. A neat grid pops up to let you draw out the number of rows and columns you want your table to start off with. Creating a table in Office 2007 is as simple as clicking on Insert, then selecting the Table button. This is a great example of where the ribbon interface really shines. The simple task of creating and formatting a table is used as the basis for this comparison. There are no images or video demos, and no integration with up to date online help data. While you can search it easily enough, the results are very limited when compared to the richness of the Office 2007 help system. OpenOffice comes with a basic, text-based help system. The help doesn’t just come in the form of text instructions – there are also images and even video demos to show you exactly how things are done. Office 2007 provides a rich, online-integrated help system that searches both the local help information as well as the Office Online website to find the answers and instructions you are looking for. A good help file is essential for those who need quick, clear answers that help them get the job done. Common functions are not presented more prominently than less common functions, and at the high resolution users run on today’s large screens it makes finding the correct button a very difficult (and squinty) exercise.įrom time to time I will get stuck on something new, or just forget how something is done. The OpenOffice interface is bland in comparison, seemingly stuck in the dated “rows of buttons” style. The ribbon also scales very well to large screens, which are very common these days. The ribbon also dynamically expands and contracts as the application window is resized, keeping as many useful functions visible as possible rather than just dropping the ones furthest to the right. Buttons and menus are more visible than before, particularly the common functions which are emphasised with larger buttons than less common functions. ![]() This interface is a massive improvement to ease of use for the end user. Office 2007 introduced the innovative “ribbon” interface to replace the previous “squinting at rows of buttons” interface.

From 1922 to 1940, the name of the paper was changed back to the Daily Gate City. In 1916, it merged with the Keokuk Constitution-Democrat to form the Keokuk Daily Gate City and Constitution-Democrat. In the following years, the Daily Gate City continued to expand. Clark returned to his editorial duties in 1899, but passed away in August 1900 at the age of 57. He served two terms, but declined to run again in 1898. Clark remained engaged as editor until his election to the U.S. He was also an active member and president of the Keokuk Board of Education (1879-94). Clark also served a term as Keokuk postmaster (1879-85). Like Howell, Clark was a political figure and edited the paper accordingly. Samuel Mercer Clark served as editor of the Daily Gate City for more than three decades, from 1869 until his death in 1900. Senator (1870-71), and as one of three judges on the Court of Southern Claims (1871-80). Howell was rewarded for his service with appointments as the Keokuk Postmaster (1861-66), a U.S. He vigorously opposed slavery and secession and used his paper to rally his readers to the Union cause. An intensely political figure, Howell worked tirelessly to advance the cause of the Republican Party in Iowa and across the nation. Howell was one of the founders and an early editor of the paper. The history of the Daily Gate City is closely intertwined with the lives and careers of James Bruen Howell and Samuel Mercer Clark. This merged publication became the Keokuk Daily Gate City, which has been published by the Gate City Publishing Company since 1855. In 1849, this paper was merged with the Des Moines Valley Whig, which had been established at Keosauqua in July 1846 by James Bruen Howell and James H. Ogden started the Keokuk Register as an alternative voice in support of the Whig Party. The following spring, in May 1847, brothers John W. That distinction belonged to the Iowa Argus and Lee County Advertiser, a Democratic paper founded by the first state auditor, William Pattee, in 1846. The Daily Gate City was not the first newspaper in Keokuk. It is unknown why it was named for the legendary Sauk chief, but the settlement became known as Keokuk shortly after the conclusion of Blackhawk’s War in 1832. It began as a trading post in the 1820s and evolved into a settlement, village, and city over the next 20 years. Located at the confluence of the Des Moines and Mississippi rivers, Keokuk is one of two county seats in Lee County and one of the oldest communities in Iowa.
